Angel Spoken Here

Angel Spoken Here

I was barely 4 years old the first time the Angels saved my life. I was wading at the edge of an inland lake near Fayetteville North Carolina when the current began to have its way, sweeping me from the beach, from my mother and her best friend watching my brother and me, but not. To my four year old perception it was as if the sand beneath my feet simply disappeared. All that was left was my flailing arms and a breath before I was completely engulfed by the fresh lake water. I fought my way to the surface twice before I quit to let the lake have its way. I remember being at peace under water, it was okay this drowning thing. I can't tell you how I got to shore but I can tell the story of the disappearing stranger my hysterical mother went to thank. He, in his courage, benevolence and stunningly beautiful eyes, was there and then he was not. Those present that day never forgot. You would have thought that terrifying event would have been enough for my mother and father but life lessons being as they are, the traumas of my childhood had yet to play themselves out. The Angels hung around me a lot in those years, likely to keep me safe from my raging alcoholic father who during the night routinely locked my 4 year old self out of the house to walk the neighborhood sidewalks. Likely also to comfort and companion me when my mother decided it was an acceptable idea to send my brother off to school and leave me alone to be cared for by the sounds and programming from the television. I was to eat the sandwich she left when Captain Kangaroo came on. I guess you could have called the Captain one of my day care providers. The Angels, another. You see, I felt them. Those magnificent Angels, my companions. I knew they were there in all of their love and grandeur. They tucked me tenderly underneath my blankets. They told me stories, sang me lullabies and signaled me when it was safe to emerge from my blanketed cocoon. Somehow I knew they were with me, not only in that now, but had been with me in my forever. So it is with great humility, honor and service I share my Angelic life events. Why? Because they asked me to.
